Mon Pote is a unique homeware and lifestyle shop situated on one of Bristol's most treasured high streets, North Street. With its instagrammable décor and homely atmosphere, South Bristol locals have dubbed it the go-to shop for inspirational gifts and homewares.
Business owner Anna Clements set up her online shop three years ago and within a year, found that interest was so high from customers that she took the decision to invest in a high street shop - and is still expanding to meet demand. By transforming an empty unit which lay dormant for 13 years, Mon Pote has carved itself a permanent place in the heart of the South Bristol community.
Anna said: "I feel optimistic about the future of North Street because it’s buzzing with independent retailers. Lots of exciting new businesses have opened since Mon Pote arrived two years ago, including a vegan patisserie, a zero-packaging shop, a green grocer committed to sourcing food from within a 25 mile radius and a yoga studio.
"South Bristol is thriving and we are well supported by the local community - which is ultimately the backbone of the high street. We have a fantastic relationship with local people because getting to know customers and understanding their needs is vital to the success of our business.
"The main challenge I’ve faced is getting the stock right. You never quite know what will sell and you don’t want to tie up too much cash in stock that isn’t going to sell. On the other hand, if something is a hit you want to have enough to satisfy demand. So I have to take risks, but try to make these as calculated as possible!"
Mon Pote loosely translates from French as 'my mate' or 'my friend' and the shop sells a variety of homeware, jewellery, children’s books and gift cards.
