Cookstown has focused on regeneration in recent years, through initiatives such as the Living Over the Shops and Shop Improvement & Paint Schemes. It also has a Dereliction Intervention Scheme to improve the high street aesthetic. Events such as the Cookstown Continental Market, Christmas Lights Switch On and Cookstown Carnival have brought together the community and instilled local pride. JAM (Just a Minute) cards allow people who face communication barriers to discreetly inform others of the need for a little more time in engaging or accessing a service. Cookstown was the first town in the west of Northern Ireland to become wi-fi enabled, and the wi-fi landing page is used as a marketing tool for events.
