Newport-on-Tay runs a festival programme through a network of volunteers, which brings together people from across the community with a series of free family activities and music events. Traders work with local schools to offer work experience opportunities and provide free meeting venues. It is the nature of the community that everyone gets involved when help is needed – such as rescuing the Christmas tree from high winds! The local environment is protected through beach tidies and litter picks, alongside a popular re-use social media site and a thrift shop. The town is also planning on becoming a Plastic Free Town through the Action on Plastic Zero Waste Towns initiative within the next year. Social media has become an important means of promoting the town and the Traders Association is working to revitalise the Newport-on-Tay tourism website.
