Aberfoyle has come on in leaps and bounds. Three women invested time and money to set up a unique gift shop to work as a catalyst for improvement. Since then a bike shop, a bakery, a further gift shop and an outdoor activity shop have opened and other shops are now let. Rural retailing is challenging, so the town provides unique ‘Only in Aberfoyle’ products and services to sustain the Main Street. A small supportive group of retailers, cross selling between shops and services is encouraged.
Aberfoyle has great disabled access. There’s also a Business Hub hosting excellent co-working spaces and free town centre WiFi.
Aberfoyle volunteers continue to clear debris from the Forth, run gala days, Easter egg hunts and help with the Christmas lights illumination. There are walking opportunities, community bike rides, and tons of future plans to upgrade the main street area (including seating, play parks and recycling bins). An ‘Act as if you own it’ project is in planning, where the community can get involved in Aberfoyle’s future, and ‘Welcome to Aberfoyle’ host training is also being discussed.
