Willesden is keen to drive footfall and support small businesses. Recently, funding was secured to deliver ‘Resident Reviews,’ an initiative where over 100 shops, restaurants, cafes and services providers were reviewed by local resident volunteers, and given a stamp of approval or areas to improve on, with bespoke support from the Federation of Small Businesses.
In the next 12 months plans are afoot to launch a ‘Shop Local’ social media campaign with an array of offers and in-store events on Small Business Saturday. Local businesses will also be showcased and promoted in the Pride of Brent business awards.
Other initiatives include a festive lights switch on, a ‘Willesden Wood’ tree planting project, a public art mural programme and a plastic free campaign. The council will also carry on working with local landlords to bring more long-term vacant units back into use for new purposes such as artists’ galleries.
