The government and Visa are proud to be supporting small businesses on the high street, as the nation’s high streets would not be what they are without you.
Through the Great British High Street (GBHS) Awards 2018, we are celebrating local achievements on your high streets and encouraging communities to shop locally and support their high street businesses.
Visa and GBHS are offering local retailers, businesses, cafes and restaurants the opportunity to participate in the Visa GBHS Spend & Win Competition encouraging customers to spend in-store to win weekly prizes, plus Visa GBHS Street Teams, will be visiting communities across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
High streets registered for the Awards will be sent point of sale kits for their local businesses to participate in an eight week spend & win competition. The competition is designed to encourage customers to spend in independent retailers on their local high street for the chance to win weekly prizes for themselves and the businesses they spend in, so that could be you. Customers that spend £10 on their Visa card can win £100 for themselves and £250 for their shopkeeper to invest back into their business.
The mechanic is simple
Entries open on 9th July 2018 and close at 23.59 2nd September 2018. To participate please get in touch with your local authority, council or trade association and encourage them to register in the GBHS Awards so you can get involved.

Be inspired by some great stories from other small businesses across the nation who are making a fantastic contribution to their high street.
In addition to the spend & win competition, Visa GBHS Street Teams will be visiting up to 30 randomly selected high streets during July and August and all shortlisted high streets in September and October. These Street Teams will help to promote your high street’s entry and surprise your local community with activities and giveaways.
